There's
just something about sitting on the beach during the sunset with the smell of
sea air and hot coals cooking various barbecued foods that is just...fun.
Tonight we went to moonlight with the DeGuzman-Ortiz family to attend their
church's annual Shrimp Boil. I'm completely allergic to seafood, of course, and
because of that I'm unwilling to expose the girls to it yet. Still, we packed
up some sandwiches and fresh fruit and our lawn chairs and headed off to
Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. There is a cute little playground there on the
beach where the girls got to run around with Ellie DeGuzman in their bathing
suits. When it was time to eat, we found all kinds of great stuff. Angel
made sure to plate up Spencer a huge bowl of shrimp, potatoes, corn and
whatever else they thought to throw in.
The
girls and I had sandwiches from Sprouts (a constant craving of mine), found
some chips and salsa, no bake cookies, and all kinds of fruit! Later that
evening, Spence taught the girls about roasting marshmallows and making woofums
(for those of you how don’t know: these are roasted biscuits around a
marshmallow shape piece of wood on a stick. You can fill them with pudding,
fruit, or anything you can think of and top them with whipped cream. Yum!). We
had a great time and finally decided at dark to head home to begin our journey
up to San Francisco!
